MSN News Feed in Edge browser Start Page: A simple guide to customize or turn it off

Edge is the much hyped new browser in Windows 10, and one of its new features is a personalized start page that shows you local weather and personalized news. While many may find it useful, others (like me) will find the cluttered look off-putting.

Below is how the Edge browser based on new Chromium code will look like when you launch. Though the screenshot shows in Mac version, it will have similar cluttered interface in Windows as well. Below the Edge symbol, you can find quick links and news feed section. Quick links will show the shortcut thumbnails of some default sites like Office.com and Bing.com when you first launch the browser. After that, it will start picking up the items from your history and show frequently visited pages. The news feed contains feed from MSN.com, Bing.com and other Microsoft websites. You can customize the feed or scroll down and view the latest and popular news in your region.

Similarly, you may want to set a custom home page to manually visit the page.

We hope now you can remove quick links and news feed in Microsoft Edge new tab page. Instead of quick links and news feed, you can use bookmarks bar and custom startup/home page respectively. If you don't configure this policy, Microsoft Edge respects the user preference that's set under Services at edge://settings/privacy.Specifically, there's a Suggest similar pages when a webpage can't be found toggle, which the user can switch on or off. Note that if you have enable this policy (AlternateErrorPagesEnabled), the Suggest similar pages when a webpage can't be found setting is turned on, but the user can't change the setting by using the toggle. If you disable this policy, the Suggest similar pages when a webpage can't be found setting is turned off, and the user can't change the setting by using the toggle.

If you disable this policy, users can't open files using the ClickOnce protocol. Instead, the file will be saved to the file system using the browser. This policy overrides the user's ClickOnce setting in the edge://flags/ page.

This policy disables two family safety related features in the browser. This will hide the Family page inside Settings and navigation to edge://settings/family will be blocked. The family settings page describes what features are available with family groups with Microsoft Family Safety. Learn more about Family Safety here: ( =2098432). The Edge browser worked fine for some days on my Surface Pro 3 tablet running Windows 10 Pro. However, today when I access the black homepage or open any new tab page, it only displayed MSN news feed intermittently or sometimes comes with the suggested web site tiles and nothing else. Now I am unable to see more relevant news or get a way to customize what type of them.
