The Mushroom Kingdom is the primary setting of the Mario franchise. It is ruled by Princess Peach, and its appearance changes from game to game. Despite this, the kingdom consists of many similar recurring landscapes, such as plains, deserts, islands, forests, mountains, snowy areas, and volcanoes.
Although mostly peaceful, in the mainline Mario series, the Mushroom Kingdom is frequently invaded by Bowser, but there have been other disruptions such as by the Dark Star, the Blorbs, and the Shroobs. Most of these incidents involve Peach's kidnapping, after which Mario, the kingdom's resident hero, his brother Luigi, and other allies cooperate to rescue her. Sometimes, usually in the Mario RPGs, the villain even overtakes Bowser, leading Bowser to ally with Mario and Luigi to rescue Princess Peach. In other cases, Princess Peach is not kidnapped (such as in the Mario cartoons), or she is quickly rescued and she assists Mario and friends to save the kingdom from the villains.

The Mushroom Kingdom has inspired several stages in the Super Smash Bros. series. Two of these, both called Mushroom Kingdom, are based off of the kingdom as it appeared in the original Super Mario Bros., with usable Warp Pipes and POW Blocks in Super Smash Bros., and ? Blocks and Brick Blocks in Melee. Despite its name, Mushroom Kingdom II from Melee is based off of Subcon as it appeared in Super Mario Bros. 2. All three of these stages feature 3-D versions of stage elements, such as blocks and platforms, while any characters are portrayed as flat 2-D images.
In the animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the Mushroom Kingdom is depicted as having a landscape composed of various giant mushrooms and floating landmasses, with Peach's Castle being located on top of a mountain.
The Mushroom Kingdom is ruled by Princess Peach. The kingdom's capital is Toad Town. Here, Princess Peach resides in her castle. Early material also includes her father, the kindly Mushroom King, who is mentioned to rule alongside her. However, he largely does not appear later in the series.
The Mushroom Kingdom is a unlockable region in Super Mario Odyssey. The "Most Famous of All Kingdoms", the Mushroom Kingdom is home to Peach's Castle, where the most famous Princess of them all rules her kingdom of Toads.
A Lovely Portrait in Glass - Because Princess Peach is so often absent from her kingdom, her citizens took it upon themselves to create a stained-glass portrait of her on the castle balcony. While a pale reflection of the genuine article, the portrait brings comfort to the citizenry when their princess can't be with them.
Places to Relax - The Toads of the Mushroom Kingdom value their relaxation and have created several lovely spots on the castle grounds for that purpose. Neither too small nor too large, and with just the right amount of ornamentation, these plazas and courtyards best exemplify the best traits of this kingdom.
Slightly Scary Woods - Even the serene Mushroom Kingdom has its dangerous locales. This forest was originally planted for mushroom cultivation, but while the mushrooms have flourished, a large number of wild Goombas have also moved in. While it's come to be known as Goomba Woods, it's still a pleasant place for a stroll, so if you're not afraid of these fearsome beasts, why not treat yourself to a walk?
The Mushroom Kingdom (briefly Kingdom of Mario Land in SMG4: Mario The Supreme Leader) is a sovereign state - a principality ruled by the Toadstool dynasty, which is almost always the main setting where SMG4 series take place, located somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. There are many different species that reside in the kingdom including Toads (the majority), humans, Goombas, Koopas and Teletubbies. The members of SMG4's Gang also live there, with the sole exception of Tari.
The Mushroom Kingdom is a country where most of the Mario games take place. The geography of the country varies, from green plains, jungles, deserts, snowy lands and volcanic areas. In the series, it is shown to be very mountainous, and it is also a fact that it sits in a rift in one of the tectonic plates in the Atlantic Ocean, possibly at the tripoint of the North American, African and Eurasian plates, therefore forming mountains such as Mount Shiver (in SMG4: Little Penguin Lost) and Mount Doom (in SMG4: Mario Scratches His Ass). To the south of the mainland lies the Wuhu Archipelago, a resort destination. Meanwhile, Isle Delfino, an autonomous territory of the kingdom, lies in the Pacific Ocean, thereby the only territory not to be located within the Mushroom Kingdom's borders in the Atlantic.
The capital of the kingdom is called Mushroom City. Meanwhile, the official currency in the kingdom is the Mushroom dollar, which uses Mushroom coins. All vehicles in the kingdom drive on the right side on the road, with the steering wheel on each car on the left side. However, it is shown in some videos that vehicles would drive on the left side of the road (much like its seen in countries such as in Australia, Britain, and Japan), probably due to the series being made in Australia, where cars drive on the left side. Still, steering wheels are located on the left, but in later videos the kingdom has completely switched to left-hand traffic.
The kingdom is shown to be very racially diverse, with the population comprising Toads, humans, Koopas, Teletubbies, Goombas and more. Meanwhile, the human population in the Mushroom Kingdom is mostly comprised of Italian immigrants, who emigrated from Italy in the past, evidence in people like Mario and Luigi. The Mushroom Kingdom is seen as an opposite to its neighbor Inkopolis as it is shown to be anti-discriminatory towards people of other races, unlike Inkopolis, due to having a homogenous population of Inklings.
The Toadstool family is the ruling dynasty over the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom, with the current ruler being Peach Toadstool, the princess of the kingdom, taking over the role from her unseen father, the Mushroom King. She resides at her official residence, which is her castle located north of the capital. While the monarch is the head of state of the kingdom, most of the power in the country is handled by the President of the Mushroom Kingdom, who is the head of government and the monarch's adviser, as seen in Super Mario 64 Bloopers: President Toad Washington. This is unusual since the head of government in a monarchial state is usually called the Prime Minister. (Although it should be noted that in SMG4: Mario The Supreme Leader, Mario is referred to as the Prime Minister a few times.)
Currently, the kingdom suggested to have flawed human rights records, particularly on the criticism of the monarchy due to the lèse-majesté laws in place, showing that the country is somewhat not that democratic and free, shown in SMG4: Mario Is Cancelled.
Due to the massive immigrant and native population staying together on the land, a need for a bridge of communication was necessary, so it stuck with English as the official language of the kingdom. However, the native species remained to speak their own languages, such as Toad, Goomba and Koopa. Nevertheless, foreign languages are continued to be spoken by citizens, such as Italian, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic and recently Inkling.
The kingdom is shown to have a mixed economy; while it has a liberalized free market system that allowed foreign businesses such as McDonald's, Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony to operate in, there are some state-owned enterprises, such as MKTV, the National Bank, the Mushroom Kingdom Paint Transfer Company and the Mushroom Kingdom Post Office, with a myriad of local businesses such as Moo Moo Milk and Chungus Games as examples.
The official currency is the Mushroom dollar, using coins. The kingdom's main revenue appears to be from shipping, thanks in part from its strategic location in the middle of Europe and North America. Toad Harbor, near Mushroom City, the main economic center of the kingdom, acts as a major sea gateway for the whole country, importing and exporting goods such as paint and fruits. Other main industries include finance, food and beverages and tourism.
The Mushroom Kingdom is served by a multitude of modes of transport. Highways are straddled throughout the country, diverging from Mushroom City. The kingdom is also shown to have railways, established since colonial times that is still used for passenger and cargo services, such as the Mushroom Mesa railway. Mushroom Metro Airport, located near Mushroom City, acts as the main aerial gateway to the kingdom, while Toad Harbor acts as a major terminal for sea cruises and shipping, such as plying the Mushroom City-Port Aurora route.
Although not regularly shown in the series, the majority of the Mushroom Kingdom practices Christianity, with churches seen in many places. The Christians there are primarily Catholics and Protestants (and with other sects), with examples such as an abandoned cathedral in the Dark Web. It is implied that Mario and Luigi are Catholics because of their Italian ethnicity. Meanwhile, there are also populations that are secular, while there are still folk religions being practiced in the kingdom. Other minorities include Buddhists, Jews and Muslims.
It is unclear about the status of drugs in the country, but it is implied that mushrooms, the namesake of the kingdom, is legal. Marijuana is shown to be either decriminalized or legal too, while drugs like crack cocaine are banned.
Throughout the series' timeline, the kingdom has been seen in much peril, such as being invaded by bootleg supremacists, two T-Pose pandemics, and pro-anime riots. Additionally, there was a timeline set 500 years in the future where sentient Weegee Dolls conquered the kingdom, which fortunately was undone by Luigi, Fishy Boopkins, Shroomy, and Mario's descendant New Super Duper Mario Plus Ultra. 2ff7e9595c
